The Universal Church of Erik does not actively seek to convert people to the UCoE. Many of us are, however, responsible for creating Phantom fans/phans, and we certainly encourage those types of activities! The UCoE is meant for people who have found the story of Erik, have already had personal ideas of Erik as a religious figure and are curious to expand those thoughts and ideas and meet others with similar viewpoints. The UCoE membership does not discriminate against non-UCoE members of the phandom just because they choose not to join the UCoE. Many fans never had and will never have ideas about Erik as a religion, and we recognise that this does not mean one is not a "real" or "true" Phantom fan. It also does not mean that one has an inferior understanding of the story, it simply makes them a different type of fan.
