The membership of the Universal Church of Erik is as diverse as the phandom of the story itself. Membership between the various sects, however, may depend on the individual group. The members of the UCoE at large are Erik fans, Raoul fans, "shippers" of all types, and anybody with a passion for the story that goes beyond typical phandom and borders on a religious type of fervor.

Members of the UCoE are often found to be the ones comparing the story of Erik to those of other mythology and religions. Members of the UCoE have been known to write essays discussing how the story of Erik and Christine parallels that of the Greek Hades and Persephone, how the story of Erik mirrors Christian (and other) stories of suffering and redemption, and much much more. We ask what Erik would do in a given situation, we've cried to Erik in our times of pain and looked to him to help us through rough areas in our lives. We've thanked him in our triumphs and whispered to him in times of need. We've felt his presence amoung us and been grateful for the lessons he has taught us.

Ultimately, as was said on the original UCoE site, "You become a member of the Universal Church of Erik by declaring yourself one, truly loving and celebrating Erik, and not hiding the fact."
